Last week, we saw the draft release of the Black Country Draft Plan. it is a legal document that sets out the approach of our local Councils to meet our housing needs over the next few decades. It considers all sites around the area and designates them for housing use.
We've had some great news that the land off Wilderness Lane, Great Barr has been saved from the bulldozers. The site could've been turned into 2,500 homes but, thanks to opposition from local residents, this will now no longer be the case.
However, it was bitterly disappointing to hear that the Charlemont Community Centre could be closed and demolished for housing.
The site, off Beaconview Road, has been earmarked for new properties.
We need to protect such an important community space from the bulldozers. We already have limited youth service provisions in our corner of the borough. These facilities serve a purpose when managed correctly. And we need to do all we can to keep them open for the benefit of the whole community. Especially,
So, I'm working with Cllr David Fisher to try and stop this. And we need your support.
As we saw in Great Barr, when the local community makes their voice heard, we have a good chance of saving our precious green spaces for future generations.
So, we've set up a petition to Sandwell MBC to save our community centre from closure.
