The Scott Arms is an important junction, carrying traffic towards West Bromwich, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield and into Birmingham City Centre. But any commuter knows just how nightmarish the junction becomes at rush hour. The horrendous traffic and air pollution caused by so many cars confined to one space really needs addressing. Many constituents will already know that my main objection to the demolition of the Perry Barr flyover was down to the increased traffic congestion we were likely to see at the Scott Arms Junction. Unfortunately, it looks like this is already becoming a reality now that work has begun on the flyover.
So, I want to work with the community to invest in new solutions like intelligent traffic management to help ease the queuing. And use the opportunities that the Sprint Route (and hopefully metro) extension will bring to the Scott Arms and the wider Great Barr area.
But, as every resident knows, it’s not just about the traffic. The whole Scott Arms junction is looking in need of some TLC. With litter problems, anti-social behaviour (including window cleaners), and rundown shops we need to invest more in this important community area.
