I have been clear throughout that any conclusion of the Liberty Steel crisis MUST result in the West Bromwich and Wednesbury steel plants staying open with no job losses.
I have been regularly updated in private by the Business Secretary on this situation and also raised it with him in Parliament.
I have also been in contact with the Chief Executives of both local plants offering my support on anything they need.
Sanjeev Gupta needs to stick to his commitment that no steel plants will be closed. The Government has been engaging with the Gupta Family Group and offering any necessary support as re-financing options are explored.
Mr. Gupta has been given time to work this out, whilst over 500 workers in the West Midlands wait anxiously for an outcome.
That outcome needs to be: not a single job loss.
I’ll continue to speak up for this hugely important industry and will be following the details of these proposed plant sales very closely.
If you or anyone you know is concerned by the sale, then please contact me
