Nicola has been raising both residents and the schools concerns about dangerous parking near Ferndale Primary School for some time. After several years of inaction from Sandwell Council, they have finally proposed a new scheme that will attempt to resolve the issues faced by local residents and children getting to and from school.
Under the proposals, no traffic other than local residents will be able to enter or park on Ferndale Street during peak times in the morning and the afternoon during term time. Ferndale Primary will be the first school in Sandwell to trial this new 'School Street' scheme, and it may be rolled out to further areas if successful.
Nicola said: "It's good to see the council finally take their concerns seriously, and I hope residents will be pleased that action is being taken. Clearly the success of this scheme will need to be monitored to see if it has the desired effect. Crucially, there must be enforcement for the scheme to really tackle the parking problems faced by residents.
"I want to thank Ferndale School and their staff who have put in lots of hard work to address these issues to keep their pupils and local residents safe. I look forward to seeing the results when this is implemented."
