Alongside her duties representing constituents in Parliament, Nicola also serves as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Rt Hon. Penny Mordaunt MP, the Leader of the House of Commons.
Nicola was proud to welcome Penny to the region today on a tour of the West Midlands' past, present and future.
Starting the day in Birmingham, Nicola accompanied Penny to meet with representative of the Jewish community in the wake of the 7th October terrorist attacks in Israel. During the discussion, Nicola and Penny heard about the importance of community relations in the region and the strength of community ties following the awful events in Israel.
Penny then visited Dudley's Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre with Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street. Very Light Rail (VLR) is a groundbreaking concept that could change the face of inner-city transport. Almost entirely made in the UK, the system is being developed by a partnership of Coventry City Council and Warwick University. Also in Dudley, Penny took a look at the new track being laid for the new Metro line that will link West Bromwich with Dudley.
From there, they also went to the Black Country Museum for a tour of the brand new high street representing the 1950s and 60s, including a memorable West Bromwich Building Society branch.
Nicola commented: "It was a pleasure to show off our region to the Leader of the House today. I wanted to ensure she got a real taste of what our region is all about, showing off our proud history and bright future. I hope to welcome her again in the future."
